    Hi,

I installed the Important updates on Aug 21 and everything seemed well.

On Aug 24 I installed some of the recommended updates, including .NET Framework 3.0 update. After the rebooting process, I no longer have the Acer software working.

Is it possible to uninstall Windows updates to see if I can get the Acer software fixed.

    Anyone have a better suggestion?

    TIA,

    Ann

If this is a laptop then yes you may neeed the battery level utilities.

If it is a desktop all the so called Acer utilities are a bunch of ****.

    But!

    To possibly get them back.

    1. Uninsatll the updates done on Aug 24.

if that does not do it

    then

    2. System restore to before that date.

This is a new laptop but what are the battery utilities you mention above? I haven't even used the laptop on batteries yet. Always use it with power supply.

I will try removing and see what happens.

I did not even think of Restore because on my XP I have it shut off. I do not think I got to shutting off Restore on the laptop. Let's hope so. Is System Restore on Vista reliable?

    Thanks, rsjones for your input.

On Laptops it is an icon in the System tray (bottom rt by time) that tells the charge and remaining time on battery.

If you are not using System Restore then you should D/L and install ERUNT better to have both!

    http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

And let it do a Reg backup once a day on boot!

    I am in big trouble.

I uninstalled the Aug 24 updates and nothing changed.

I then did an ERUNT which I had created on Aug 16 and nothing changed.

Decided to use System Restore and try the Aug 21 restore point to see if this would clear up the error. The machine has been restoring for the last three hours. I do not notice any HD activity. the screen shows Restore is restoring the registry.

I am frightened to turn it off because I do not know if I even have my OS on it or not.

    What can I do?

    Update:

Called Acer and they told me to download and install .NET Framework 2.0 and that would solve the problems. I did as they told me and got and error opon installing: Cannot install because .NET is already installed as part of OS.

Had to do a Restore from the computer's partition. Now I am starting again from scratch. What fun! Worse thing is that I do not know what caused the mess in the first place.

Arie, Do you happen to know if Vista includes BOTH .NET 2.0 and 3.0? I ask because I had one update for 2.0 and another for 3.0 and I feel that these two might have caused the mess. I still haven't started to install updates and who could blame me. TIA.

Acer Vista comps already come w/ dot net 3.x. The update you installed was just that, an update to the existing dot net 3.x.

As for any Acer-specific software not working, no worries. I setup several new Acers and always uninstall almost all of the Acer pre-installed utilities, such as acer power mgmt, acer settings mngr, etc. All that is already built into the operating system anyway.

    Thanks Tony for your reply.

If Acer vista come with .Net 3.0 I must assume that they also come with .NET 2.0 because that was the one that the Acer software was requiring that I install. If I have both 2.0 and 3.0 then I should install both the updates?

You shouldn't have any problems running .NET 2.0 (or 1.1) apps on Vista's .NET 3.0 (which is .NET 2.0 + little extras).
