Ok! here's the problem history and where I'm at.

After doing a fresh install of Win XP and setting up my Netscape Mail all accounts, were disabled. Of Course! So I painstakingly went back to my latest backup, i.d'd the proper pop, pop-1, pop-2 etc and contents for each account and copied them into the correct sequence. I even created a new account, busy.bee@rogers.com (cable).

Well, ihudon@rogers.com wouldn't connect. It accesses the internet ok since the "Netscape e-mail page" appears when logging onto the account. When I click the GetMsgs, I get my first error: "Enter your password for hudon@pop." First off, it should say ihudon@pop. So, I nonetheless enter the password for ihudon, click "Ok" and get another message: "The pass command did not succeed. Mail server pop responded: invalid user name or password." After clicking "Ok" again, I get "Enter a new password for user hudon@pop." Well I enter a new password and click "Ok ", which gives me: "The pass command did not succeed. Mail..." as above.

I have checked my ISP for account names, and it has ihudon@rogers.com among its accounts ...

I have checked all of the settings for the account name and they are equivalent to the others. Server settings are: Server name= pop; user name= hudon; port= 110. So, I change user name to ihudon, and, click "Ok" and I get an alert that says: "An account with that user name and server name already exists. Please enter a different user name and/or server name."

When I change the server name to pop3, it accepts ihudon as the user name upon clicking ok. I then attempt to access the e-mails stored on the ISP server and get an new alert saying: "Failed to connect to pop3." Of course, because the server is not pop3, it's "pop." Stangely, adding to my confusion, when I click my MailWasher Pro to "Check Mail ", it fetches the mail items and displays them?...Woooow!

How can I fix this problem with the ihudon account? What do I need to change to make it work?

Thanks in advance to whoever responds...

    Hi busybee,

You may need to talk to your ISP, however, I found this information on the Customer Service pages at the Roger.com web site:

    How Do I Use Email

    Start Netscape 6/7
Click the envelope icon on Netscape's status bar, the Account Wizard appears
Select ISP or email provider in the New Account Setup window, then click Next
Type your full name in the Your Name field, and your new Rogers Email address in the Email Address window, then click Next
Leave POP3 selected as the incoming server type.
Set Incoming mail server to pop.
Set Outgoing mail (SMTP) server to smtp then click Next
Type your username with the full domain (i.e. johnnyq@rogers.com) in the User Name field and click Next

NOTE: If you are unable to collect your mail using these POP and SMTP
    settings, please click HERE

Type a "friendly name" (i.e. "John - Rogers ") for your new account and click Next
    Select Finish

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR WINDOWS XP USERS:

At this time, we strongly recommend that you do not install any software from the Rogers @Home CD-ROM or the Connect Wizard as described in the Rogers @Home User Guide. In the very near future, we will be releasing versions of this software that will be 100% compatible with Windows XP. Please use the instructions within this addendum to connect your Windows XP computer to the Rogers @Home service.

According to Rogers these should be your settings:
    Incoming Server - Pop
    User Name - yourname@rogers.com
    Outgoing Server (SMTP) - smtp
    Port - 110

With Netscape, if your user name requires the "@ " symbol, then you will need to add this line to your user.js file (if you have created one) or to your prefs.js file:

    user_pref( "mail.allow_at_sign_in_user_name ", true);

    Well I'll be @#$%&$#@,
I read this same advice myself a few times already, but when I got to enter the password, it gave me ihudon@rogers.com@pop, so I did not go any further... especially I had other models to go by that worked without the @rogers.com, go figure...

Well, I went with the seemingly unusual results, and it worked... Next time something like this happens, I'll go the distance.

The most confusing thing about this is that all of the other user names work without the username@rogers.com. I'm sure glad someone like you is around to emphasize the need to follow the directions as they are presented...

Thank you, thank you, thank you,...

P.S. the instructoins are not entirely correct, but, that's ok, I knew where to go to get to enter the needed data.
