Hi philly101, Welcome to WindowsBBS. :)
    What did you actually do?
Was it just the Volume Control Icon in the System Tray?
If you go to Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Volume > check box- Place volume icon in the Task Bar > OK out.
Other than that - were you in Device Manager and Uninstalled your sound controller?
Please give more detail and I'm sure you will get the help. Neil.

Sounds like you may have accidentally uninstalled your sound card's driver. Do you have any yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager?

It may be helpful if you would add your system specs to your profile for all members to see.

Go to User CP near the top left of this web page, and click on it. In the left column, you will see Edit System Specs. Click on that, fill in the required info, and be sure to Save Changes at the bottom of the web page.

If you need help finding your computer's system specifications, install Speccy, and it will find much of the info for you.

Hi philly101, Like James has suggested, you may have removed your Sound card drivers.
Have you got your Motherboard drivers CD?
Is your Sound system built in or do you have a separate PCI card installed?
You may have to find/locate your M/B or Sound card web site and locate and Download the appropriate drivers.
If you card plugs in - it will not have the 3 or 4 RF plugs on the comp Rear Panel. They will be down below in a slot.
If you Download Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit
and install - it will locate and disclose the name of the Sound system for you. Neil.
