This sometimes happened in Win98se, and is now happening about all the time in Win2k. I locate a file I want to shortcut to, make the shortcut, and clicking either the file or the shortcut gets "Access to the specified device, path, or file is denied ". I can copy the same shortcut into "sendto" and it works., and "properties" shows the shortcut-pif to be correct. What gives? Sometimes I get similar results when I use the "Open With" dialog to set default program for a file type.

Most likely there is a space in the path to the exe and no quotes around the path.

Things located in %systemroot\program files are usually the offenders here and IMO the programmer who put the space in that folder name should be hung by his thumbs.
