I am running Vista Home Premium. When I open Windows Explorer, I try to open my documents in this location: c:\documents & settings\my documents.
I get access denied, Location not available.
I can access them if I navigate to c:\users\myname\documents. I also have a path c:\users\myname\my documents and I get the error there as well. I also have a partial document shortcut on my desktop which works.
Why can I not open all these locations? Thanks in advance.

Hi geno368. Those folders in Vista/7 are called junction points and are meant for older software to be able to install properly into those directories.

You can access those folders if you wish. You just have to take ownership of them.

Read this, How to Take Ownership of an Item in Vista and Windows 7.

There is nothing to gain from trying to access junction points, and $crewing around with ownership can get you into trouble quickly!
