    Hi folks,

    Windows XP and Vista

What will be an easy way to popup a .dat file on starting Windows. The file runs on Linux popup a Bible verse according to date. I expect to have the verse of that day popup on desktop on starting Windows. TIA

I didn't know dat files would do that...but place a shortcut to the file here and see what happens:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

A .DAT file can be opened in Notepad but the data in it will not all be readable, it can contain binary data.

What software are you using on Linux to get the Biblical quote of the day?

If use Vista or Windows 7 you may be able to find a Gadget that streams the verse of the day to your Desktop.

    Hi Steve,

    Thanks for your advice.

I can read the .dat with text editor manually. But how to start the "Bible Verse of The Day" on that file automatically? Is there an existing program? Or I have to write a CSharp program?

Sidebar gadgets have their own propriety coding format, not too difficult to code it appears. But search for an existing bible gadget. Gadgets can't display the linux dat feeds.

However, there's a built in RSS gadget, just locate a site that feeds bible quotes and you're set.
