    Hello,
Are there any utilities available which let you customize the Windows 2000 Professional logon prompt? Such as embedding your company name on the prompt above where you type in your username/pass, or your logo.

    Strange request, just interested.

    Customize Logon

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but you can customize the text at logon. It might not show at the actual logon prompt, but W2K does allow text to be displayed at the time of logon. I think the setting is in GPO. You could go googling for "customize logon text" and "windows 2000" [or something similar] and likely find a site with a pointer to the exact setting.

BTW, you can also set IE to display custom text, too. That setting is part of the GPO.

    Best wishes! :)

    Hello,
I assume you mean the "logon banner ". Thank you! However, I am referring to the point where it says "Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to begin ". I would like to customize this text; although I'm fairly sure it is not possible. Am I right? It is impossible?

    Yep, it can be done

A while back, I also wanted to do this. After many hours of searching, I found this Login Image Modifier program.

You can't edit the text with it, but you can replace the login images with it.

    Hey quackbal...

I use a free tool called X-Setup Pro.

It does have a few "Startup/Shutdown" options. The "Legal Notice" Option under "Startup/Shutdown" allows you to configure a message just before the logon screen. You can enter text for a Message Title = "The Dobhar Company" :) and a Message Text = "The PC is the property of Dobhar...keep out under penalty of death!" or something like that...hehehehe

    Ok,

Thank you all very much- I've found many uses for those programs!

However, I assume its impossible to change the "control-alt-del to begin" text, because we use special keyboards on some workstations that don't have the 'del' key labelled as such.

You could try "Autologon "...http://support.microsoft.com/?id=kb;en-us;Q234562 to get around the no "del" key.

    Couple more "Autologon" links
    - http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/13/
    - http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/780/

Systernals also has a tool called, oddly enough, Autologon

    As far as
You can try these reg hacks...remeber to backup your registry before you try them...
    - http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/926/ - adds extra text to the "Logon to Windows" title bar at the top of the logon box
    - http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/247/ - adds extra text just above the username and password
