I have two laptops, sitting side by side, connected wirelessly to the same router. One is an HP G60 with an AMD Turion Dual core 2.1ghz chip, 4 gigs of ram, a Nvidia GeForce 8400MG with 256megs of dedicated ram. It is running Vista 64bit home premium. It's windows experience scores are 4.9 for CPU, 5.9 ram, 4.0 video AERO, 4.4Video 3D, and 5.5 harddrive.
The other is a Compaq F700 running an Athlon 64x2 1.9Ghz, 2 gigs of ram, and a GeForce 7000M with 64megs of dedicated ram, Vista 32bit . Its windows scores are 4.7 CPU, 5.5ram, 3.3 Video Aero, 3.0 video 3d, and 4.7 harddrive.
My question: Why, when watching a streamed video on HULU dot com( CAPRICA-scify network), does the seemingly inferior laptop stream full screen video smoothly while the stronger laptop jerks and stops like a surveilllance video?
In regular, windowed mode-the diference is imperceptible. I just updated the video drivers on the "faster" laptop, and it made no difference. Video, in full screen mode is still jerky. Am I pursuing the wrong remedy?

Look for chipset/motherboard drivers for the HP at their website. If they don't offer 64 bit drivers, the only way you might be able to get them is to buy the recovery disks from HP, if they offer them.

From my experience, HP have proprietary drivers. Compaqs don't have proprietary drivers and all their drivers can be downloaded. In other words, you won't get the correct drivers for the HP unless you use their Windows installation system. Compaqs can have a retail version of Windows installed and you can download a full set of drivers.

Investigate what other programs (background programs) might be running, compare the information in Task Manager.

Did you just "upgrade" the graphics drivers? It is often best to uninstall first (Control Panel -> Programs and Features).

Check the media player (uninstall/reinstall) that is playing the video. Check for information/FAQs at HULU.

Check the internet speed both get. You can find speed testers using a websearch (www.zdnet.com have them).

Is say, an antivirus or some other checking program interferring?

Check the streaming program has full access in the firewall settings. (Could there be 2 firewalls running at once?)
