We recently installed a COMPUTER OPEN for PUBLIC USE at a property I work for. This COMPUTER is on a seperate DSL LINE and is no way part of our NETWORK. WE have good Maint., AV, and ANTISPYWARE apps installed. Since this a PUBLIC use Computer I would be interested in suggestions, programs, applications that would prevent the PUBLIC from TAMPERING w/ the settings. Thanks, S.

Make sure the public can only sign on as guest, and you should be OK. But also be sure the floppy and CDs and USB ports are disabled so no one can reboot from them. And use a BIOS Setup password. And look at prevent reboot from anywhere but the hard driv

We have some computers anyone can use and we don't actually do all this. Think the best security is the guest signon and the setup password, and make an image (we use ghost) of the drive when it's set up so if anyone or anything (like a virus) tries to damage it we can replace the image in 10 minutes.

The image stores easily on a DVD.

The TOWER is in a seperate ROOM. The only access for the PUBLIC is to the MOUSE, KEYBOARD, and MONITOR.

Then the guest sign on and the BIOS Setup password should be sufficient.
