    Hi

I have a very important issue that I would like to get a response for.
As you know, the PowerPoint Application is the most widely used for presentations, but many people buy cheap computers with minimum software and they don’t come with PowerPoint (nor even Microsoft Office) they come with some second hand presentation application that very few people use.

Some of these cheap computers come with Corel Presentations Application but the problem is that if some friend sends you an Email with a PPS attached you won’t be able to see the presentation with Corel, you must have PowerPoint to see PPS.

    Now, my questions are:

1.- Is there some way for people that do not have PowerPoint installed (it is an expensive application) to watch PPS they received at some Website that enables you to watch it?

2.- Is there in the market any universal converter that enables you to convert PPS to Corel presentation file (for people that have Corel Presentations) so you can watch that PPS?

3.- Is there a way to convert PPS to .AVI (video) file so you can watch that presentation on your
Windows Media Player (or Real Player)?

I would appreciate any suggestions to solve this issue.

There is software available from MS which allows computers which do not have PowerPoint installed to display PowerPoint Presentations - PowerPoint Viewer

When a PowerPoint Presentation is completed in PowerPoint go File > Package for CD - this produces a folder containing the presentation and the viewer - which can be burnt to CD.

    Hi PeteC

Thank you very much for your fast response and help (this Forum is Great!)
I am presently downloading the viewer from the link you provided (I did not know that it existed because I have Powerpoint on my Laptop but my brother and some friends don't have it and I am doing the research for them)

My brother and friends will be very happy to know that they can watch PPS with a FREE viewer (WHOA!!)

    :)

mazaprin - Microsoft has free viewers for all their Office apps available for download from their web site.

Some folks (including me) who own MS Office and have the 'real' applications still prefer to use the viewer as default for opening documents, power point presentations, spread sheets, because the viewer can't be hit by any embedded nastys. If you want to edit a document open in a viewer, there is a file option to open it in the full editing version with a single mouse click.

While I have good AV and antispyware protection, I still like the security of being able to open an attached .doc, .xls, .pps file and be 100% sure it will be harmless even if it is infected.

Hi Newt, thanks for your input, I am new to this ppviewer, never needed it nor knew it existed because I have the complete Microsoft Office 2002 which includes PowerPoint.

This was a research that I did for my brother and a couple friends that don't have PowerPoint on their cheap computers.

I need you to clarify something for me:
You say that even if you have the PowerPoint real Application, that you can ALSO use this ppviewer without it affecting your PowerPoint Application in any way or form? ... Can I also keep the ppviewer installed on my laptop and use it independently from my PP Application? (I downloaded the ppviewer but have not opened it nor installed it on my laptop because it was intended to be installed on my brother's computer, not mine)

As you have PowerPoint installed on your laptop you already have a version of PowerPoint Viewer available - See Program Files.

It is included with PowerPoint (2003 at least) to accommodate the option I posted above ....
and viewed on any computer which does not have PowerPoint installed.

PowerPoint Viewer can be used independently of PowerPoint on the same PC.

Hope this clarifies the situation :)
