    Hello ALL -

To begin with, I am running WinXP Pro.

I don't do an awful lot of graphics work on this computer but . . . There are times that I DO have some digital pictures that have to be "processed" and passed on to family and friends.

The short story is that my camera is a Kodak Easyshare CX7430. I don't necessarily care for the Kodak software that came with the camera 3 or 4 years ago and the "updates" really aren't that much better. In fact, I have found the updates to be bloated and not all that helpful. DUH!!!

What I am looking for is a ' "freeware" program that will allow me to download my pictures directly from my camera and then process and/or edit them so I can either save them to my HDD or e-mail them to family and friends.

I have been a member of WindowsBBS for quite some time, and as such, I trust your collective word almost explisively, my fellow members. Please, give me your oinion and the reasons for them!

Many thanks and may all of you celebrate a very happy holiday season!!!!

I'm a fairly intensive user of Photoshop - hardly freeware :) and lecture on it too, but one of the favourite freeware imaging programs is Irfanview
Not necessary - far quicker and much more convenient to use a card reader - which the computer sees as a removeable drive, to copy/move the image files to your hard drive.

I concur with Pete about IrfanView. As for software to download the pictures from your camera I find that Windows Picture and Fax Viewer does a fine job. These two programs have served me well when dealing with my digital camera.

I also have a Kodak camera and the Kodak Easyshare software is a royal pain in the ***. I bought a cheap Card Reader/Writer at the local Radio Shack. I just take the SD card out of the camera and plug it into the reader. Everything is now just drag and drop, because the Card Reader/Writer is just another device on My Computer.

I also use Irfanveiw and I love it.

Thanks to all of you for your posts. I apologize for the lag time in my response but I have been very busy lately and not had the time to respond. :(

I will try everything all of you have suggested and let you know how it turned out for me. Thanks again, BBSers - I wish each of you a very happy and prosperous New Year in all of your endeavors. :)
