Windows Vista A new Vista boot problem

Hi All,

A happy user of Vista Home Premium from the beginning, including the RC's, I have had no problems, no blue screens, and all the updates have installed without problem. In fact, I find that Vista is boring after a few years on XP, because like most of the regulars on this site I tried to, had to, learn the inner workings of XP in order to fix the odd problem. This has not been necessary so far for me on Vista.

However, last week I booted my machine, and it displayed the Microsoft lace curtains, the welcome panel, and the basic icons, IE and the Recycle Bin only. In other words the initial screen that you see on the first boot after installation. I investigated a little and found that all my data and programmes were still there on their own partitions, so the panic died down! A reboot fixed the problem, and my own desktop with all the normal icons re-appeared.

Today the same thing happened again!

Does anybody have any idea why, and how, this happens?

You were right of course Steve, and now I feel really stupid! I didn't realise that it had happened when I booted the machine and then went to make the coffee. As there is no password for the user, just a click on the welcome icon, on my single user computer it defaults into the Administrator profile.
A senior moment perhaps!
