I am in the process of replacing my old Compaq presario with a newer machine. As it stands now, both computers are networked just fine. Both of the newer ones will also have XP home edition installed. The Compaq with Win 98 has a lot of files, some of which I have transferred to my current machine. My problem is this. I will have , three computers , three keyboards, and three "mice" and two monitors. I do not intend to actively use the Compaq on line, but wondered if I could have it connected in the network to either store data or retrieve its old data as needed . Is there any way I can do this? How can I view the data without a monitor Start up and shut down would be a problem.

If the computers are in close proximity you could use a KVM (Keyboard Video Mouse) switch.

Not sure of the cost, I use a couple of them at work and I know the 8 port rack mountable one was a bit pricey (about $400). We use that one for our servers. On my desk I have a small 4 port switch to go back and forth between the 2 computers I use all the time and if I have to repair one I plug that into it as well.

I just did a quick search on Google and found prices from about $40 for a 2 port switch up to about $160 for a 2 port switch. Of course the more ports the higher the cost. I also noticed that most don't come with the required cables.
