I am sorry this should have been in XP

This is problem is certainly not of world shaking magnitude, but
It is something that bugs me. When ever I open a file , any file, the icons are displayed as large icons. I can, and do, go and hit list, and it is then the way I would like it. Is there a way that I can change the default to list instead of large icons?

Certainly easy enough to set them all (well, most since some like My documents won't play) like you want them.

In Windows Explorer, go to a folder and set it just the way you want it. Then tools~folder options~view and click on the button to set all the way you have this one. It will make the changes in the default view for most of your folders.

Yes you can change it ! We have Windows ME but the procedure should be nearly the same for you. First, open a folder such as My Documents. At top of page click on TOOLS. In the drop-down menu click on FOLDER OPTIONS. Along the top of this window click on the tab labelled VIEW. You should see a list of options with checkboxes. Scroll down and look for REMEMBER EACH FOLDER'S VIEW SETTINGS and check the box beside it. Near the bottom of the window click on APPLY, then click on OK.

Next time you open a folder and select View/List it will stay that way !

    Regards
