Hello people--I am currently trying to import my messages from OE6 to a new machine running Win7 and using outlook a an e-mail program. When I try file>export>messages in OE6 I get an error "The export could not be performed an error occured while initializing MAPI" in box with a big red X. Tried to find out function of MAPI with no luck. Any ideas appreciated.Almost forgot this is OE6 trying to copy to a usb port.

Did as you suggested and went to MS Support. Got the MAPI change settings instructions and tried to follow them. One page told me I was not able to use it for their instructions and to go to the XP page which turned out to be the same page. So I tried the tools>options>properties>program tab>e-mail list to change to another e-mail app.
No joy, the block was blank, no e-mail app. at all just a remark telling me that OE6 was working with MIE8. And that was it, any ideas? BTW I am using a cable modem and connection, if that makes a difference.

Close OE and seek out the DBX files....Just copy then "as is" and get them to the new machine. Place the files in one folder on the new machine and use Outlooks Import function.

-Fiinally got fed up with the whole mess. Went to Lap Link power mover and got the files sent by inetrconnecting cable furnished with the Lap Link, between the two machines. A word though, if anyone is thinking of takeing the same route, read the manual very carefully. I scanned thru the manual and missed the part about attention to dates and wound up with all my mail with me as the header and no date other than the ttransfer date. If I could get 7 to accept the DBX files steve r. instructions would have been better. thanks anyway Steve. Now I have to try a reinstall on XP
