    hi ppl
i am in need of help
my flash disk let me down!!
it has been always recognized by the OS
then a few days ago i repaired my copy of windows using the repair feature from the the win xp CD
after that all drivers had to be re-installed
    ok.......
    so
win xp pro did recognize my flash again
it appears in the device management as ( properly working ) and it also appears in the disk management with the other drives but it is not mounted & it is not assigned a letter
btw its not displayed in MY COMPUTER as it should be
the flash works fine on other PCs,
but any removable disk on my PC is NOT working
it gives me the same thing
the usb port is also working fine coz i have tried other usb devices and they all work fine
ive tried manually assigning a letter to the volume but that is helpless too
and after that when i try to access the drive from the disk mgmt i get a "volume not mounted or enabled, please reboot to enable" message from the disk mgmt
so can anybody help me get out of my problem?
    i would be very grateful

Hello ae13 and welcome to the Board,

In disk management, assign a drive letter to the flash drive.

My apologies for not reading carefully.

When you repaired the OS, was SP2 included with the OS disc? In other words, did you install SP2 over an original XP SP1 installation? The answer may narrow this down some.

I've moved your thread to the Hardware section so the hardware experts can look at this.

    Regards - Charles

    my solution

i repaired the installed win XP SP2 from the same CD
i tried to re-repair but i got into another problem, a non working copy of win xp, dirty cd
but then i realized that it was a waste of time & effort
so i installed the windows xp sp2 on another drive & it worked fine
after that i recovered my documents from the C drive, formatted it; & the drive containing the new copy of windows
re installed windows on the C drive and it worked!!
    about 5-6 hours of work
    + program installation and all
anyways thank you for your interest & help
