I got interested in cd image files, and I downloaded a cue/bin image of a game. I was able to view the contents of the file using Daemon Tools. I then burned the image to a cd using CDRWIN. A few days later I went to mount the image on Daemon Tools again to show it to my brother. When I went to the directory that held the cue/bin files, they were gone and a file named "|cd001|" (with pipes) was there instead. When I list the files in DOS there is a second file named simply ". ", with 0 size.. The |cd001| file is over half a Gig in size and I want to get rid of it but can't delete it in Windows or DOS. In DOS the file name has smiley faces instead of the pipes. Can anybody help me figure out how to get rid of these 2 files?

Not sure but try this; My Computer to the file rt click and at bottom uncheck all attribs the rt click and try to rename the file to say "xxx.yyy ". If it will allow you to rename it, it will then allow you to delete it.

The pipe is a special dos/windows device and may cause a problem renaming and deleteing this file. Hopefully it is a high ASCII character that looks like a pipe.

If this don't work get back and I will show you how to enter those characters from the keyboard.

Thanks, mmflynn, for offering some help.

When I check the properties for |cd001|, no attributes are checked and when I try to change the file name I get: "Cannot rename file: file system error (1026)" Those pipes/smiley faces are awfully suspect. I was thinking I might be able to delete in DOS mode if I could figure out how to type the filename with the smiley face characters.

Have you tried using wildcards in dos?

    del *cd101*
    or
    del *cd101*.*

If there aren't any other files in that directory you could just change directories at the prompt and type del *.* to delete all files in the dir.
What's the name of the directory? Have you tried a deltree to delete the folder and the files all at once?

    Thanks Zander and Mflynn!

Weird! When I restarted in dos mode and tried the wildcards, I got "file not found" and "path not found" ,respectively, when I tried the commands suggested by Zander. I restarted Windows and tried it again in a command prompt window from the start menu. It worked! Geez, what was that ? Some kind of booby trap in those CD image files?

Thanks again, I knew the Windows BBS would come through!:D
