I'm running Windows 98 first edition and when I click on "Entire Network" I get an error message telling me I cannot connect to the network.

I can connect to the internet through a router so that's not the problem.

I think it's because I need to to set up my network manually (where XP does it for you) but I can't remember how to do it. It's been about three years since I've fooled with 98.

    Fixed it. Well sort of.

I had to manually look for my other computers. Some are listed under "MSHOME" and some under "WORKGROUPS ".

They still don't show up under Network Neighborhood for whatever reason.

I just made desktop shortcuts and moved them to a folder on my desktop.

On a windows xp machine go into the tc/ip settings of the network card used
Basically copy those into the same settings in the windows 98 machine
The network name has to be the same on the machine to enter the network
In windows 2000 / XP ifs MShome in Windows 98 its something else
What a wise way to set up your networking for people to have problems
Change the network name on the Windows 98 machine to MShome or whatever it is named now
