Resolved How to turn off the tabs feature in Thunderbird 3.1.1

I did a Google search on how to remove, turn off, or kill tabs in Thunderbird 3.1.1 and came up with nothing on that topic. I really dislike the tabs feature and want to turn it off. I think it's an example of fluff that's not needed in an e-mail program, and just takes up much-valued vertical space.

Does anyone here have a way to do it? Thanks!

Thank you, PeteC! I don't know how I missed these topics. I guess if I did it again I would use the word hiding instead of remove or kill.
