I think that most of the new hard drives come with software that allows you to use the overlay to extend the 8.4GB limit. I'm sure that Western Digital, Seagate and Maxtor have it. Be careful after you have installed it, that you don't ***** it up by loading something afterward. I vaguely remember reading about multiple operating systems, Partition Magic, and other programs that can cause trouble with the overlay. Also upgrading to another OS might be a problem. Check it out.

    Hey Kev

Are you running an older system, I ran into the same issue with a Pentium 200, I was told that the motherboard wouldn't recognize anything bigger than that, seemed to make sense seeing as how went i bought that machine the industry standard was 2 gb

There are no real problems As long as you ALWAYS boot from the Hard Drive first

There is no more of booting directly to the Floppy or the CDROM. You MUST boot from the HD and then choose floppy or HD boot.

Also I had the overlay. Boot Magic and three OS on here once and there were no broblems. Just a reall big PITA with all the menus comming up.

Also a plugin card which ahs it own Bios is a MUCH BETTER choice. And then the PITA overlay is not needed.

So BillyBob, if you get a plugin card, are you still unable to boot from a floppy?
If you don't what does it mean you first boot from the HD and then boot from the floppy? Do you get a message that the overlay is in place and then insert a floppy and select boot from floppy?

I do not know 100% for sure but I do believe you can. Someone that has dealt with the card will need to answer that.

As to the message. With the overlay you do get a menu giving you the choice of A: or C:

I do not believe that is the case with the Pluggin card.

From what I have learned on this BB, I get the strong impression that the Pluggin card if far superior to the overlay.

I can and will say. I would stay away from the Overlay if at all possible. Another problem with the overlay is that the HD MUST stay in the location is was in at the time the overlay was installed. It can not be moved to somewhere else without either disabling or removing the overlay. And this needs to be done via the same software that installed it.
