    Me again!?! I downloaded Netscape successfully and installed following Ramona's guidelines. Everything works great except the feature that I had been excited about. The mail notification. Although the notification works even when the mail window is not open (yay!), I cannot get it to play my custom .wav file, it still plays the system default no matter what I select. Thanks for the help again!

    Hi IceWine,

    Glad the install went error free! :cool:

    For your Mail Notification, this is what I have seen suggested for those who can't get it to work :

    Edit | Preferences | Mail/Newsgroups | Notifications
    Enter the path to your custom sound file like this:
    file:///C:\WINDOWS\MEDIA\your_sound_file.wav

    or whatever the path to your sound file.

    Supposedly this is necessary for Windows 98, however I had no problems entering the path in the usual way on Windows 98SE...

    Another annoyance with Netscape 7.x, is that it is often necessary to enter the preference more than once. The preference isn't written to the prefs.js file until Netscape is closed.

    If the above doesn't work, then create a USER.JS File, and add these scripts:

    user_pref( "mail.biff.play_sound.type ", 1);
    user_pref( "mail.biff.play_sound.url ", "C:\\WINDOWS\\Media\\your_sound_file.wav ");

    or whatever the path to your custom sound file.

    Let us know if you continue to have problems.

    As usual, your tips are right on the money...editing the file to file:///C:\WINDOWS\MEDIA\your_sound_file.wav worked just fine. What a tempermental little program we are so loyal to, eh? :) Have a good one!

    A high five to you too, IceWine!

    Yes, it is a tad tempermental, but staunch, steadfast, and true, we remain...
