With Netscape Communicator I could choose insert and format the email I was sending. When I write a message in 7.0 I do not see the Insert option on the toolbar.

Am I mssing something, or is it not avail??

Second question: I began my email session in the inbox folder with Ccommunicator - - Now I get this page with all kinds of options and have to select the inbox. Any way to go there directly. In preferences I did deselect mail start page. I do not know how to write the path to inbox if that is what is required to begin with the inbox.

    Thanks donna

I did get the insert to show finally. Either changing to modern and/or
    using HTML for messages

Would really prefer to use text for most email - -

Still don't know how to start with inbox.

    Hi donnacat,

Good going on your "insert" issue.

To open Netscape with the Mail & Newsgroup component, you can add a Command to your Netscape Desktop Icon Properties:

    "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\Netscp.exe" -quiet -P "donnacat" -mail

    -quiet = No splash screen
-P "donnacat" = Profile name (if you have more than one)
-mail = this is what you want in order to open with the Mail Window

Be certain to note the spaces between the Commands.
    "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\Netscp.exe" _-quiet_-P_ "donnacat "_-mail

I will give it a try. Still learning about this email program and haven't set it as default yet. Using Communicator. I also dismissed the dialogue box asking me if I want it as default. Have computer set up that when I use IE and want to mail the page - Communicator Messenger comes up. Does it do that with 7.0 if set as default? From reading, sounds like Outlook will not work and I have it working just fine with old program. Those are the major concerns. Just checked IE under Programs and see that 7.0 is listed - will bite the bullet and try soon.

It just seems like it is an extra step that when I open 7.0 mail I see the screen with the following:
    Read messages
    Compose new messge
    View settings for this account
    etc etc etc

I can click in Appearance and chose mail -
would that be the same as your command? Only one profile too.

I know one question leads to another.
Good news is that the browser is better and faster than Communicator.
Hesitation is the change with email.

    Hi Donna,

Have computer set up that when I use IE and want to mail the page - Communicator Messenger comes up. Does it do that with 7.0 if set as default?

Yes, mailto works the same way in 7.0.

I can click in Appearance and chose mail - would that be the same as your command?

No, that would be the Mail component, not a specific command line. I recall that I had the same problem in the very beginning. When I kept clicking on "Read Messages" for some reason Netscape finally remembered. The Mail would then open in the Mail window, rather than the Window you are seeing. Also, keep "Inbox" highlighted when you close Mail, and see if that helps.

There is a Command Line for -compose which will open Mail in the "Compose" Window. Here are the Command Lines for Netscape 6/7:

    Scripts for the user.js:

I also add my Profile to the Mail Icon Properties: -P "username ".
