I am on the verge of replacing my aging laptop and I notice that most retailers are offering the 64 bit version of Windows 7. I am getting very conflicting reports of what problems I may encounter. Will I need to get a 64 bit driver for my HP 1315 printer? Will my paid up subscription to Norton Internet Security work? Can I install my Office 2003 from the disc I have in my desk drawer? Will this be seamless transition or a nightmare?

    Yes
HP PSC 1315 All-in-One Printer - Select 64 bit Driver download

Should be no problem. See MS support link below.
A summary of the support boundaries for Office programs that run on 64-bit versions of Windows operating systems

Have not used their products for years. I'm sure they have a 64bit version. But your paid subscription transfer would be best answered by Symantic.

    Overview
For most, moving to Windows 7 - 64bit has been painless.
Concerns would be for very old hardware/software or companies that have gone out of business.

    Hi caribsailor,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

As long as you have a valid subscription to Norton Internet Security, you are entitled to a free update for the life of your subscription. The 2010 version is compatible with Windows 7 - 32 and 64 bit operating systems. For more information on Windows 7 compatibility with Norton and to update to the latest version, please visit the link below.

I have had a SONY VAIO 64bit Windows 7 all-in-one Touch Screeen since Christmas and installed several 32bit programs (Adobe CS3, MS Money & Works) that had been on my 32bit XP machine. I have not had a problem. Windows 7 has "Compatibility Mode" which is also supposed to help with older programs.

    Not so fast

I was told when I bought a new laptop last month that MS office 2003 will not install on any version Win7. I have a licensed copy of Office 2003 and would like to put it on the new machine but have not even at attempted for the reason stated.
Can someone confirm it will install in my 64 bit Win7 machine?
The link above is dated April 2008 and says nothing about Win7 only the 64 bit version of XP.

Also I will be starting another thread about the garbage "live" version of Movie Maker.
    Thanks,
    Dan

Yes, it is compatible with Office 2003. Would suggest checking for version updates before installing. Note Microsoft link states version 11.
