My son (who uses FF and ZA) just sent this message to me:

For some reason Zone Alarm will not run. Also for some reason I can't get onto the Internet to do any sort of research. The message I get is:

    Validation Failed
    c:/docume~1/rob/locals~1/temp/vsinit.dll.
You are probably missing a necessary root certificate

    Validation Failed
    c:/windows/system32/vsdata.dll.
You are probably missing a necessary root certificate

I tried to remove Zone Alarm so I could re install it, but I got the same message. I hope you can help, I'm kind of out of my element with this one.

I'm going to do a virus scan now.

PS. I just noticed when I tried to send this message to you it said that my server rejected it because it was dated in the past. I checked my clock and it was the year 2000.

    ----------------

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    James,

I found this in a Google Search:

Recently, some ZoneAlarm users have reported getting a "Validation failed for VSINIT.DLL" message. Zone Labs has determined that computers suffering this error are missing a root certificate. There is a link to a Tech Support Form to be filled out for the error.

It's possible your son may need to update the system's root certificates. HERE is an explanation of the error with some links that are useful...

As to the error with the date, if your son has replaced the CMOS battery recently, but didn't reset the BIOS, then therein lies that problem. When the battery is replaced, the date is set back to the original date of the Mobo (I think).
