hello, I did a clean install of my OS and after re-installing Firefox I started to wonder what Ext. my friends find impossible to live without. I know there are more important matters here, but I also learn quite a bit from any question I ask here ..Thanks people!:D

I keep it simple: Adblock Plus, Adblock Filterset.G Updater, IE View Lite and Forecastfox. Oh... and Dom Inspector. Just these five but if I had to dump two I would get rid of Forecastfox and Dom Inspector. The first three I can't live without! lol

Although this doesn't happen with a lot of people, I have found in the past that Firefox would freeze up, so I've gone to running it with as few extensions as possible. Now this might have no causal connection--perhaps an update fixed this issue, but the few I have are:
    IEViewLite
    Download Statusbar
    Real Playerplugin for downloading videos

I guess I fall in the other camp, as I run FF with numerous extensions, most of which I actually use :). I've never had FF freeze up on me, but I will admit that it loads slightly more slowly than it probably would with fewer installed extensions.

How did you actually invoke a nice list like that?

"Numerous" is right, Jim :) Hey if it works for you, fine. I've seen folks in the mozillazine forum say that they run upwards of 50 extensions without a problem (now that's a goal for you--post when you make it to 50!). But I'm happy with what I have, and that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Any more, most of what I used extensions for can be done with bookmarklets, which with keywords I find are faster to use (things like Tinyurl, search, wayback archive, etc.).

Don't quote me, broni, but I think there's an extension that will do that for you. Seriously.

    Jim?

    Hi Broni,

I see you don't have the MR Tech Local Install extension in your list but, IMHO, it's the first extension that anyone using more than just a couple of extensions should install. Its name is something of a misnomer, as it's really an extensions manager. My list was generated courtesy of Local Install.

Addendum: I should add that each item in that list is a link, either to the extension's current page at mozdev or to its homepage. Makes keeping up with the Joneses much simpler, especially if you download all of your extensions, as I do.

    broni ...

MR Tech Local Install is one of the most useful of the many extensions I have installed. The Options sheet may look intimidating when first seen, but these are the settings that I think are important for the average user (not that you're not welcome to try out any others :))...
    General tab:
    Install Paths tab:
enter the Default Install Path, if you download and archive your
extensions, as I do. Do the same for themes, if you use them.

    Manager Hacks
    tab:
    Behavior tab:
check "Sort Extensions (Themes) Alphabetically ", if you find this desirable.
    Layout tab:
check "Extension Manager 'Slim Mode' List View" if you have a lot of extensions installed. The entries will expand when selected.
    Window Options tab:
check all options under "Show Items: ".

    Miscellaneous
    tab:
    Miscellaneous tab:
check "Enable Session Manager/Crash Recovery session restore on restart ".
    XPI Install Options tab:
check "Enable Addons Compatibility Checking" and "Disable XPI install time delay ". Check "Allow web sites to install software" only if you're comfortable with that.

Jim taught me about Mr Tech Local Install, and, I have that add-on in my Firefox. I never found it so useful in final versions of Firefox, although I am carrying one or two add-ons which requires it to be compatible.
It is not a cure-all, but it has been a must with nightlies or related programs like Navigator9. For me Nightly Tester Tools does the same job which Mr Tech does, for me.
