I want to create and print 4x6" plain postcards with Word 2000. The cards are tractor feed with no space between them. The printer is a FX-980. I created a custom size in page setup of 6" width and 4" height. Have It does 2 things, 1 it shifts the whole printout to the right app 1.5" (which I can compensate for and deal with) but the kicker is that it still wants to print a 11" page, so it prints the 1st card ok but then feeds to what it thinks is the next top of form. I have also set the printer menu up manually to tell it the page length is 4 ". I dont get it. Both the s/w and also the printer are set for 4" length. I have been messing with this for hours and its driving me crazy. It should just be cut and dry. Any help will be appreciated greatly. I have 4000 to print. They are all identical.

    Thanks,
    Merrill

Have you tried Word's built-in feature for cards? It's under Tools>Envelopes and Labels>Labels tab. All you have to do is adjust your thinking that you're printing a "label "...to get in line with the terminology Word uses.

If you're using a standard blanks...like Avery...it's even easier by choosing the manufacturer you're using, and then the specific product.

I've tried to build custom cards similar to what you've done and met with limited success and found that it's quite a bit simpler with better results if I just tweak one of the built-in "labels" to fit the blanks I have.

I have been messing around with different label definitions for hours. They are not avery labels, so there is no predefined def. They are just plain old tractor fed 4x6 cards w/ no spacing between them. The fold is every 12 inches (3 cards). It seems like I have tried every combination. The printer is manually set for a 4" page lenth and so is Word. It still wants to feed 7" after the label, so something still likes a 11" page length.
