Quote from Help and Support :

You have a 30-day grace period in which to activate your Windows product installation. If the grace period expires and you have not completed activation, all features will stop working except the product activation feature .

    Notes

If you have not yet activated Windows XP, you can do so at any time by clicking the Windows Activation icon in the system tray to initiate activation. Once you have activated Windows XP, this icon disappears from the system tray.
In addition, there are other ways to open the Windows Product Activation Wizard:
To open a system tools item, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click the appropriate icon., then click Activate Windows.
Alternatively, click Start, then Run, and then type "oobe/msoobe /a "..
For more information on product registration for Windows, open the Registration Wizard by clicking Start, then click Run. In the Open box, type "regwiz /r ".

BTW - please kill the caps lock - Board etiquette is lower case, thank you.

Thanks Peter, but her computer does not bring up the taskbar to even go to start. The only thing it does is bring up the activation window and if you close it, it will log off and your back to the shutdown window. The only choice it gives you to activate is to use the default settings for connection to the internet, or a proxy setting. No other choices are available except to call the number they give you. So I want to know if there is a way to either remove (which was never in the Add/Remove) windows xp or to get around the activation to connect to the internet and then activate. But I really do thank you for your help and look no big caps.................

    Be Blessed,

Format the drive & start from scratch?

Even if there was such a way around, we wouldn't allow it to be posted here.

Just do the activation via the phone number given.

Tell your Friend that he ( she ) had best start paying more attention to warnings that come up days ahead of time.

Not only with XP but a lot of software in now doing this MUST register/activate bit.

You can more than likely guess where I learned that.

Never been in this situation and can not see the screen rev_sun is referring to BUT.. when rev_son answers PeteC post....

rev_son says "The only thing it does is bring up the activation window"
(This is what you want, correct?)

rev_son says "The only choice it gives you to activate is to use the default settings for connection to the internet, or a proxy setting."
(Choose default or proxy settings, which ever is appropriate. Now push next, ok, or what ever is available to process the answered question.)

With luck you are now linked into MS and can get activation process completed.

IF there is NO interaction like this on the screen your seeing, use the options suggested by previous posters.
