I had 3 updates: Office 2003 SP3, Outlook 2003 junkmail filter, and update for Office 2003 come to me under automatic update. All 3 fail to install. I tried several times-manually, automatically, one at a time, and they fail-all 3.
I really don't care, I don't use Outlook, but I do use outlook express. Under office I only use PowerPoint whenever some pictures comes as an email attachment. I almost never use Word, and Excel just to look at one spreadsheet. The other components from Office 2003 I didn't even install. So, the failure to update really is not that big a deal for me. The gold shield icon sits in the lower right corner of the taskbar, and from time to time nags me to install the updates.
Is there any way to get rid of it and have it stop nagging me?
Alternatively, any hints on how to have it successfully install the 3 updates?

Hi skaler2k. To hide the the updates, click the yellow shield icon that shows that updates are available. Click the Custom option. When Automatic Updates shows you the three updates, uncheck the checkboxes and click close. A message will pop up telling you that if you don't select updates they won't be installed. Click the checkbox in that window that says don't notify me about these updates again and click ok.

If you choose that you want to troubleshoot the updates that are failing instead of hiding them then read this, Troubleshoot Problems with Installing Windows Updates. :)

If that link doesn't help then try this. Click Start< My Computer. Navigate to the following directory. C:/Windows/SoftwareDistribution/Download. This folder is where Windows downloads the system updates for your computer. Delete all the contents in this folder but do not delete the folder itself. After that empty your recycle bin and reboot the computer. See if the updates install now.
