3.5 months gone

Very bizzarre situation. All the e-mails were there yesterday, but today, everything since 1/1/04 is missing. Today's messages come in fine, it is just that period from Jan 1 to today that has vanished. I checked through all the subfolders, and nothing. Does this have anything to do with either A) "Compress in Background" setting, or perhaps deleting all of Notron's log files? The person said someone else had the same problem, and it occured after deleting the logs, which is the only significant thing done on that PC as well.
