    Hi,

It may be a dumb question but you never know just because it's newer, does not make it better

I am just about to set up a server and I have a choice between 2k Advance Server and 2k3 Enterprise Server

What is the better out of the two?

    Thanks,
    Xalies

Welcome to the BBS Xalies, :)
Providing both do all that you require, then the difference would be similar to the difference between W2K and XP. W2K3 (server) is very similar to XP, (other than the server components) except many of the XP functions have been turned off for security and stability. These include UI themes (Luna), Sound acceleration, Graphics acceleration, general internet browsing etc, and processor sheduling is set by default to background services.
The driver cache is far more extensive than with the 2K series, and compatibility, whilst not the same as XP is fairly extensive.
SP1 is only a few months away, and many see the first service pack a sign that the product has matured into a stable product.

I use W2K3 as a workstation and find it a better product than W2K, so assume the comparison of the two in a server environment would be similar?

The service life of W2K3 server (support from Microsoft) will be longer than that remaining for W2K servers.

I would recommend Windows 2003 because it has many additional features over Windows 2000. In addition, may OEM's are going to stop shipping Windows 2000 soon, and I would expect Microsoft to EOL Windows 2000 sometime in 2006.

I choose the w2003. You can use the same commands as with w2k but I find it easier to navigate around the OS with the w2k03
