I had attempted to install linux to a second partition on my disk. instead of putting anything on the mbr i set it up so linux would load when i put my startup floppy in. i ran nix worked like a charm, started windows up, and it would get stuck on the loading settings screen. so then i booted to safemode and formatted/deleted the nix partition thinking that would solve the problem. but noooooooo it didn't. any help greatly appreciated. thx in advance

Still could easily be a MBR problem. Try the recovery console and running the fixmbr command. Also take a look at your boot.ini file to see if there is a problem with the entries there. Maybe pointing at the wrong partition or something for the 2K load.
