    Having Same Prob

Hello, I am currently trying to clean up my brother's computer...running w98SE now (was W95 but have upgraded in order to install Ad-Aware, AVG & Zone Alarm) His computer was terribly infected with Dialers, Trojans, Malware, tracj\kers etc... have managed to rid it of most but am still getting fake Windows Security Centre message to d/l spyware detector programs... and at least 2 redirections of IE to strip poker page and an insurance page. So far haven't been able to find anyone who knows how to get rid of these apart from a fresh install would be great if you have found the answer!!!!!
    Regards River

    Surprise Surprise

    Hi again,
Well you're not going to believe this.... but.. while I was waiting for a reply i kept on fiddling and deleting and updating and........ discovered a couple of things...
    1. latest virus data update files from avg (d/l this morning again) discovered 3 more Trojans ( all variants of same)... Clicker.BN in ipcfg.exe..... Clicker.BO in scands32.exe and Clicker.BP in snnpapi.exe.... that hadn't shown before.....
    and...
    2. all the nasty pics etc that i had deleted before were again stored in c:\windows\temporary internet files\ie5content\...... however they were completely hidden and i only discovered them again because they flashed past when running avg... so went to 'find' and looked for jpegs and they all appeared.... couldn't delete them as they didn't show up any other way.. not even in DOS..... so deleted all folders under ie5content even though was warned they were system folders and they appear to have gone again.
Since doing these last 2 things I haven't had anything pop-up or try to access internet.... have been running computer most of day and been on internet about 6 times now so far without any sign of them again..... just picking up a couple of trackers in ad-aware, no more viruses and zone alarm seems to be keeping the attacks (of which there are plenty!!) at bay... there worst thing that has been happening is I keep getting knocked off the net... but have set up new connection now and think that may have fixed that issue.
Am hoping that the problem is somehow now fixed!!!! This isn't the first one I have been given with this problem to fix but it is the first one that hasn't ended up with a fresh install. I don't know if this will help anyone else but thought it worth posting.
Might forgo the Hacker Log File for the moment if that's ok and just see if everything keeps going ok...... Will certainly send one in if it all starts up again. Thanks for your help

LOL - River Stan, if it ain't broke, good idea not to let us try to fix it.

If you have problems down the road, we'll still be here and HJT will still do a log file. Meanwhile, hope things keep working for you.

    Thanks

Thank you for that....... at the moment all still seems to be ok.... although I guess there is always the possibility that it is date related and just after I send computer back to my brother the whole deal starts all over again!!!!!!!! (Perish the thought!!)
Anyway thank you for being here to help and having a great forum to go to for answers. And IF !!!!! we suffer the dreaded return I will get a log straight back to you. I am actually reasonably surprised the computer is still running at all after all the stuff I either deleted or stopped from starting up!!!!! LOL Just goes to show how much unnecessary junk is installed eh!!!!

    Regards
    River Stan
