My friend claims he loses two hours on his clock every Tuesday evening. He says it keeps accurate time otherwise. It just happens on Tuesday.

That would be OK if it made Monday shorter :D

I would try leaving the computer off on a Tuesday evening, then on Wednesday boot straight into the BIOS settings and check the time, see if it changes when Windows starts.

I would say it is a program running in Windows that is adjusting it.

It could be the cmos battery needs replacing or the Windows Time Synchronization is erring. Look in Event Viewer/System for any instances of W32Time.

Possible virus? Has he ran a virus scan of the entire system?

If he's running XP, try this. Double click on the clock in the system tray. Click the Internet Time tab and uncheck the line that says automatically synchronize with an internet time server. Then keep an eye on the time. If it quits losing time on Tuesday after doing this, you'll know it's something related to the time synchronization thing.

Well, I was thinking about this after I posted and that thought occurred to me too. I'm not sure what the default number of days is for synchronizing it but it would make sense if it was set to the wrong time zone each time it synchronized the clock it would get changed. If the period between synchronizations is a week and the day it does it happens to be a Tuesday, well........... :)

Zandar, mattman, that sounds like the logical explanation to this problem. I'll bet that's it. Let me check with him....I'll get back to you. ;)

You were right...he was in a different time zone and XP updated it once a week.
