I have 12 adware viruses that Norton IV 04 can not remove, it says "delete failed" after running the scan and trying to remove them. The new AdawareSE nor Sbybot1.3 picks them up either. :(

Here is the typical location below---but when I go to physically into the root directory to remove them per what NAV says to do--they are not there. anything past the TIF is not listed in the root files, and I have the all hidden files to be shown too. So I am stumped. Should I even worry about it? Or?

Aanyway, here the typical addy of the adware.

Adware.CDT is the virus name. C:\WINDOWS\LocalSettings\TemporaryInternetFiles\Content.IE5\S3TRAMND\mtrslib2[1]

11 of the 12 look like the above in location and sequence except the last 2 groups (last 2 bunches eg s3tramnd\mtrslib2[1].) And they all end in lib[1] or lib[2]

BTW it is on a AMD system about 5 years old, MS98SEOS

Can a knowledgable person shed some light on this?
    Thank you,

    Alan

    Hello h2ofwlr,

I posted to your 2nd thread - didn't see this one before I did that.

These files are in your TIF, which should be flushed. If you're on a always on connection, the browser can't flush them at disconnect even if the option to do so is set in IE.

You should get second opinions by using the on-line virus scanners linked from here: http://www.windowsbbs.com/links.php

    Regards - Charles

These 12 are unrelated to the 18 already removed by Spybot.

So why can I not see these files? I was scouring the TIF and none start with "content ". :( Someone thought maybe they are part of valid files and can not be deleated without harming the valid files???

    Opinions please.
