    Hi,

I have a Y-Cam Knight wireless camera I am trying to put on the internet. I have a SmartRG DSL modem connected to a Linksys WRT54G router. The Linksys router is bridged to the DSL modem using PPPoE (I kept getting blocked by ISP and "ClearAccess" before this).

I set up the camera again, again with DDNS enabled in the camera, but when I try to connect to "myhostname.dtdns.net" I get this error (I get a similar error in SeaMonkey):
Safari can't connect to the server.
Safari can't open the page "http://myhostname.dtdns.net/" because Safari can't
connect to the server "beach1.dtdns.net/ "

Trying to connect to using the IP address dtdns.net gave me (67.xxx.xx.xx) but results in a similar error.

It appears I need to open a Port in the router for the camera? BTW I CAN access "dtdns.net" fine, just not "myhostname.dtdns.net ". Can anyone help?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

BTW I can access the camera fine with a local 192. IP address, just not from the outside internet using my dtdns.net Host Name.

As stated above, you will need to change the port the camera's server uses.
And you will also need to add a port-forwarding rule in the wrt54g router.
    example if use port 8000
application: www or camera or anything logical
    protocol: both (tcp/udp)
port from: 8000 port to: 8000
    ip address: the-local-ip-address-of-camera

the lan camera url will now be:
    192.168.1.x:8000

Login to dtdns and set to use the port you created.

Thanks guys. With your help I think I may have gotten this working. But I am curious about something, lets say the Linksys router assigned the camera an IP address of "192.168.1.120 ". But the power goes out and when the power comes back on the router assigns the camera a new IP address, say "192.168.1.112 ". Now the camera won't work, until I change the router again, correct? Or should the router not forget it assigned that IP address to that camera?

The camera is actually at my brothers beach house and I am setting it up for him. But once I go home I won't be able to manage his set up here...

    Thanks,
    Jeff

PS Oh, and if I add a 2nd or 3rd camera will I have to use a different port for each? 8001, 8002, etc?

Well, I had the camera working pretty good, for a few hours. Even tested it remotely. Then I tried to set it to "Use the following IP address ":
    http://home.earthlink.net/~webspace-03/ycam/usefixedIP.jpg

.....then after clicking "Apply" I could no longer communicate with the camera. eeeeeee. I tried resetting the camera with a tooth pic pressing the little button recessed in the side of the camera. Didn't help. The camera just couldn't be found with the Y-cam app.

As a last resort I tried another reset procedure that's used to upload new firmware. But I think that wiped the memory....and I don't have what I need here to upload new firmware. So, I guess I will take the camera back 800 miles home with me and try again next time I am down here in NC.

    But I appreciate the help....thanks,
    Jeff

PS Know of any computer clubs in the Myrtle Beach area? (gee, are there any "computer clubs" still around?)

Hi guys. After I sent the above I remembered, you need to hardwire the camera to the router for initial setup...which I needed to do since I reset the camera. By the time I get done here I'm actually going to know what I am doing...

Still curious what happens if the camera and router lose power. Will they re-configure the same why when power is restored?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Yes, if do the following:

Set the camera with a static IP address.
The wrt54g, by default, uses these addresses for DHCP:
    192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.150.

Thus, if want an address to never change, use a static address in this range:
    192.168.1.2-99.

    example Camera config:
    Use the following IP address:
    IP address: 192.168.1.20
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
Use the following primary DNS: 192.168.1.1
    Same ports you have now.

Thanks sooo much Tony for the help. Good info. My brother bought two of these little cameras almost two years ago I think was. But this is the first time I have been down to his place down south here to try and set them up. As we learned after we bought them, you really need to be on site to configure everything with the router and all. And as it turned out I needed to bridge the router to the DSL router. Anyway, my brother super happy. And I'm happy I finally we finally got it working. Especially since he is letting us stay at his beach house for nothing. Getting this working for him lets me do something for him.

He actually has a 2nd identical camera up home. But I think I have everything set here now so I can configure the 2nd camera up home in NY for him, so when he comes down in a few weeks he can just plug it in and have it work. If not I guess I'll have to come back down to the beach house here haha

    Thanks again,
    Jeff
