1 usb port broken on myAcer Aspire5517

    the inside teeth of one of the usb ports just crumbled one day when I was hooking up my printer on my Acer Aspire 5517 lap top is ther a way I can fix it without having to take the whole thing apart?

    Hi virginias377, Welcome to WindowsBBS. :) What you are describing sounds like the contacts in the USB connector. Without knowing the setup in your Acer Aspire 5517 I would imagine that the USB will be on a circuit board/module and may be a serviceable unit. Unfortunately this will involve opening/dismantling the laptop.
    Unless you have the skills/experience this may require a trip to the Service agent. $$$$. Neil.

    Given that you have more than one USB port consider the use of a small USB hub to provide the USB ports you require.

    I agree with using a hub to add more ports. But I still would carefully inspect the broken hub to ensure there are no bent contacts touching any other contacts. If you see any, unplug your charger and remove your battery. Then carefully use a small screwdriver, awl/icepick or other sturdy tool to bend the contacts back so none touch any others. Then I suggest putting a piece of tape over the port as a reminder not to use it.
