As the title says, I just got the 0x1a BSOD, which listed itself as MEMORY MANAGEMENT in the screen. What could cause this? The worrying thing is I literally just redid the computer from scratch, reformatting everything, last Sunday. I have noticed some games won't install or load, sighting a lack of memory, despite the fact that other games are perfectly happy, even when they use a lot of RAM, and that there is always plenty of memory free. Any ideas?

Did you install all up to date drivers for the hardware? I would also test the memory itself.

All the drivers are up to date, except the sound card, for which the latest drivers are broken anyway (every time I've installed them, on a couple of different OSes, they've immediately crashed the computer).

Memory was perfectly OK before the reinstall, so I'm doubting there's any issue there - and again, I push forward the point that I have had Sims 2 and Firefox open (which is what caused the crash) without issue before and since the crash.

Have you got a lighter debugging tool? We're already well over our bandwith for the month, and 273 odd MB is a hefty download that I could really do without. Or, can I just upload the minidump file?

Is HTML report the feature I need to use in this program?

Including the motherboard/chipset drivers on both installs? I'm assuming that you are still dual booting after the rebuild? If so ....

Do you have the same issue in XP ?

Yes, the chipset drivers are up to date, and I have not witnessed any problems in XP.

Couple of interesting threads from .....

Vista - Memory Management blue screen error

    Memory Management BSOD

Interesting to note that OP in the last thread experienced no issues in XP

I never used Vista so am at a disadvantage here - I'll have to leave it to you to do the detective work until someone else chips in, but I would suggest running the Memory Checker with the rider .....

Memory test was fine, but, as you say, I am well aware that these programs do not give a fully accurate picture. The issue indicated in one of the threads you linked to me is not relevant to this (middle thread), as there are 2 sets of matched pairs I've only seen the one BSOD, although the games that dislike something constantly say there's not enough memory, but only within Vista, so I'm not sure how succesful moving the RAM around would be, but I will try.

Solved since I upgraded the RAM (note: I'd intended to do this anyway) to 3 GB.

Also, what's happened to this website? Everything's compressed a long way to the left...

On the basis that you updated all the RAM it looks like the original was faulty. Also,
    It's the new look

The RAM is NOT faulty - it has gone into my father's PC and it has worked perfectly in that machine. ;) And it was also only 2 years old, and I doubt Kingston are quite that low quality!

OK, this isn't solved. Juiced is throwing up an error saying I need Virtual memory to be configured for it to run, despite the fact that virtual memory is configured - this I am assuming is linked into the whole issue I've had. Any ideas?

I will mark the thread Resolved.

Motherboards can have conflicts with RAM. Using the RAM suggested by the motherboard manufacturer can be a good guide. Using the model of RAM suggested for your motherboard at RAM manufacturers website could be another. BUT, they won't guarantee that that exact model of RAM will work with your motherboard.

On the RAM manufacturers websites, they offer the suggestions for the (RAM) model they think will work best. On the motherboard manufacturers website, they offer suggestions for RAM that they have tested and it works.

RAM might work on one motherboard and conflict on another.

    Matt

I have removed the Resolved marking, I missed that post.

    What is "juiced "?

You haven't mentioned virtual memory before.

If software is manipulating memory you will need to take it up with the software manufacturer.

Virtual memory is something I've only just seen, and Juiced is a racing game which is fairly well known, if not at the same level of Need For Speed, so I'm surprised you've never heard of it at any point.
