Predeceased by a frustratingly rebellious Lexmark printer and a local ISP hybrid wireless router/broadband modem that had a nervous breakdown only a few months previously, HP "Honeypot" Laptop shook hands with the great calculator in the sky after succumbing to complications known only to computer technicians and corrupted computers. HP "Honeypot" Laptop is survived by ailing Home Network Workgroup computers and several little iPods. Efforts to prevent HP "Honeypot" Laptop's demise by using frequent Windows Live, Windows Defender scans and the local ISP's monthly fee firewall and anti-virus software were to no avail. HP "Honeypot" Laptop took with it several hundred dollars worth of iTunes music and videos and will be dearly missed by the little iPods. A post mortem is ongoing and it is suspected that the symptoms of malware were not acted upon shortly after the Windows Vista OS was installed by an A+ certified technician. The computer acted very strangely on numerous occasions but this was dismissed as a hardware or Windows Vista OS quirk. It was discovered at that time that the MMC Console snap-ins were missing but this was dismissed as possibly due to a previous viral infection such as Conficker that was no longer on the system. Windows Defender scans did not detect any worms, rootkits or viruses. In the last days of HP "Honeypot" Laptop, with a full hard drive and a malfunctioning fan causing overheating, it was discovered, while booting a Ubuntu Live CD in an effort to rescue it, that HP "Honeypot" Laptop had a "Bad Bios" as well.

Interesting story, but not quite sure what you are asking
If the hard drive is still OK remove it and connect via an adaptor to your desktop as a slave and copy off.
