    I have tried uninstalling the floppy drive - on next boot up it is detected again - but the problem remains

    The usb and floppy all have valid data on them - I can read them on the same PC if I boot to Safemode. It is as if XP has its driver corrupted...

    Further info If I boot to safe mode then I can read media in all the devices so that implies the h/w is all ok I have browsed thru the security...
