Which device is handling the PPOE authentication? (Where the PPOE user name and password is stored) What brand and model modem?
Was it a bad WiFi adapter or was it a driver issue for the existing adapter after the format?
After you formatted your PC what OS and version did you install? If it was XP you will need to be on service pac 2 or later before it will play...
Looks like a good place for a wireless game adapter. The game adapter has an Ethernet port you can plug into the 98 machine once configured.
