My Laptop connects to my PC wirelessly - both with XP Pro.

I have set up ICS on the PC and "some of the time" the laptop is able to use the Internet successfully.

But nowadays it seems as if the laptop has connected to the net but it fails to display any web pages. Its starts to display it and when the green bar is half full, it reverts to "The Page cannot be displyed" screen. So it just about connects but messes up on the last second. Could it be my ISP (Freeserve) or something else?

    Appreciate any help.

    Thanks

    Need more information.

Do you have a dialup modem and is that how the machine running ICS is getting to the Internet?

    - OR -

Do you have a broadband modem? Is it attached to one of the systems? How? Which system? Is that the system with ICS on it?

    Do you use a router?

Is the wireless device simply an access point? Or is it part of the router?

How many network adapters are in each machine, what are they hooked to, what protocols are bound to what adapter, and what are the IP addresses of anything that has an IP address? Can you ping the ICS node from the other? Print the IPCONFIG /ALL information for the laptop and the desktop machines. Identify which is which when you do.

I've had this infuriating fault. It just seems that the internet is working yet some sites won't load. What does load is msn update and last night I updated successfully, but still normal loading of sites doesn't work, well until a few moments ago.
I initially had a computer with 98 on it set up for network which worked well. I then replaced it with a laptop and it sort of worked but not efficiently and neither did the network especially after removing the network cable and taking it away (as it is surely designed to do). I (well it was my wife actually) eventually got fed up with this as she couldn't print out without me being there and rebooting, so I replaced the laptop with the 98 computer(progress!!). Hey presto the fault is now there when using the 98 computer.
Fault diagnosis: The fault must be in my computer.
It could be a mix up in the networking files. (Although I can't find them to delete them).
I decided to use a new computer name AND a new WORKGROUP name.
This has set up the network again OK.
I've also had problems with firewalls. You may have to disable them and or configure them to accept other computers.
Hope I haven't rambled too much and good luck.
daycartes. Let me know what goes on

I've solved it. I just had to set my McAfee Firewall to "Accept All" and that way the laptop could connect.

I still can't figure out how to let the laptop connect with McAfee set on "Filter" though.
Does anyone know the settings I need to set?

    Thanks
