In Netscape 4.7 when you chose address in a new email you were given a drop down list of all address books and their address lists so you could choose several different address lists from different addressbooks and put them in the same messages.

    No more!

Now clicking address only gives you the name of everyone in each address book, NOT separated into lists. You can send to one list by going to address book and click on ONE list and it will end up in compose.

This is extremely frustrating. Any solution??

I'm watching Planet of The Apes on TV and seeing netscape evolve backwards in what would seem to be basic functions (like saving more than one message at a time) makes me feel like we're all devolving.

I guess it's time for me to explore linux and open source programs -- before monopolists figure out how to shut them down. sigh...

Playing around some more I found that if you type in part or all of the name of the list, you'll get a choice of both addresses and lists. But the whole list just sits in the TO: fields so you can't go through and delete the two people you don't want to get the message for whatever reason.

Except for the crashes, when Corel address book was linked to netscape it was great; 4.7 address book was adequate; this one's getting me crazy so far. Having multiple lists of people to send very different types of things to, I need a good address book.

To answer my own question again...

Figured out I can work around the problem of the <list> in address line that doesn't let me delete out names from the list by going into address book and creating a TEMP list of the various people I want to email to and then importing that to the message. A bit more of a hassle, but not intolerably so.

MY BIG QUESTION: Will creating and deleting 2 or 3 such address books a day really ***** up my address book.

I've noticed the .mab files are now numbered instead of named, so you can't just delete those old ones that hang in there forever like in 4.7. Or do they delete themselves???

    Carol the housekeeper.... :)

Which Netscape or Mozilla version are you having problems with?

I never used mailing lists so I created a couple of lists within two different address books in Netscape 4.79 mail.
Then I created a couple of mailing lists in Mozilla 1.0.1 (similar to Netscape 7.0) within the different address books. I gave each mailing list a distinctive name like Alice's Friends List or whatever. Mozilla was a little tricky in adding names the mailing lists... I ended up creating an empty list first, then dragging the e-mail names on top of the list name in the left pane of the address book screen.

When creating a new e-mail message in Netscape 4.79 I just clicked on ADDRESS in the e-mail composition window's toolbar, then when the address book window came up I clicked the bar on the left of the e-mail names to reveal all my address books, selected the address book in the left pane then selected the list name in the right pane, the clicked on To. I did the same for another address book containing a different mailng list.
Then I clicked OK, and both list names appeared in the E-mail To fields, one under the other.

In Mozilla 1.0.1, composing a new message I clicked on ADDRESS in the toolbar. In the box that came up, Look in: Personal Address Book was already selected. I just looked through the list of names and found my Mailing List name, selected it, and clicked TO. Then I switched to my other address book, found my other mailing list in the list of e-mail addresses, selected that, and clicked To again, then OK. The new e-mail composition window showed both mailing lists, just like in Netscape 4.79.

In case it helps, I found the following in Netscape 4.79 by going to Help, Help Contents, under Using E-mail, Using an Address Book (Mozilla 1.0.1 has a similar section).

    Creating a Mailing List

If you regularly send messages to a group
of recipients, you can quickly address a
message by creating and naming a mailing
    list.

To create a mailing list and add it to your
    address book:

1.In the Address Book window, click New
    List.

2.Enter the following information in the
    Mailing List dialog box:

List name: When you use this name
as an address, everyone on the list
    receives your message.

List nickname: Alias for the list
    name.

    Description: Appears after the list
name in the address line of the
    composition window.

3.Drag entries from the Address Book
window into the list, or type in addresses.

    4.Click OK.

To remove a member from the list:

Select the member's entry and click
    Remove.
    ==============end c/p===================

P.S. I just re-read your posts. If you just want to edit a particular mailing list to remove a couple of names fo one e-mail, it looks like, for Netscpe 7.x/Mozilla 1.0.x at least you would need to create a new mailing list . I don't see how to edit a current mailing list for a single e-mail without permanently changing the list, but then I don't have much experience with mailing lists.
