My computer came with "Altec Lansing 2.1 Multimedia Base AVS300" speaker system. It has 2 satellite speakers and a sub woofer.... for an inexpensive set, does a very nice job. I play my collection of CD's via mp3's on the computer. The convenience I lack, NO plugin jack for headphones via the speakers. On my old system, you could listen in privacy when jacked through the speakers, as they would auto disable speakers when headphones were in use. The Altec speakes seem to lack this simple but very missed option. Any solutions??

Dennis L--Turn the speakers off when using the headphones?
have you tried plugging in the headphones in the output jack on the PC's tower? (probably on the front.)

    Thanks Welshjim

The only jacks available are the (Microphone in) and (Line in) on the PCI sound card. The only remaining headphone jacks are outputs on the CD drives... which are of no value when playing HDD source music. I don't see a way around this.... unless one can put a splitter on the speaker out and plug in headphones through splitter.... Is this doable?

Dennis L--Sorry I can't comment further, though I see nothing wrong with the splitter idea. I have a headphones jack on the front of my PC tower (and volume control) right under the CD-ROM tray. Hoped you might, too.

    Thanks Jim
I have headphone jacks and volume dials mounted in the face plate of CD player and the CD burner. Neither provide output signal when music source is provided from the HDD. Hopefully splitter at speaker output jack/PCI card will provide a solution. Thanks again for your input.
