I use windows xp, and I need to add windows ME, in a separate partition, so that I have a double boot option.
I have 3 partition, 2 in ntfs and 1 in fat32. Tried to install ME, using windows me startup disk, but it does not install, I get an error message saying that I cannot install ME with NT systems.
    Is it not possible?
or should I go the hard way: remove xp (format c), install ME first, then install xp? I appreciate it if someone can help me avoid that very hard solution.

Do you even make it to the spot where you specify which drive?

If you can get it to install, you'll need a boot manager to dual boot.

You probably have the primary partition (drive C) set to NTFS. Thus it will be impossible to install WinME. The primary partition needs to be FAT32.

Arie is right. If the XP partition is NTFS, ME won't install.

Generally you have to install the latest version of Windows last so, yes, you'll probably have to reformat the drive, partition it, install ME and then XP. XP will, at some point, ask about a dual boot and will set it up for you.

If a second OS is desired I would suggest Win98 SE rather than ME.

SE and XP are much more friendly with each other. And in dual boot setup this is important.

No matter which you use I do suggest a power down and restart with about a 30 second wait when switching between them. This will assure that RAM has been cleared and cut down on the possible chances of conflicts.

I found that was the better thing to do when I was dual booting 95 and 98. Warm restarts=problems. Cold restarts=no problems.
