Check the domain listed on the XP system when it tries to log in. My guess is, it is different than your actual domain name. Just change it.

User had logon to correct domain name. I had tried to logon on

as workgroup and connected to server without problem. I could

not able to add domain user to administrator group as well. I

believed that the problem is from the NT4 server. Orther

workstation which is using Win95 and win98 are working

perfectly. Please advise and many thanks.

    Best regards,

In network properties, is the XP PC a member of either the domain you are trying to log on to or another domain that has a proper trust relationship with that domain?

Right-click My Computer and click Properties. Under the Computer Name tab, change the PC from domain membership to a workgroup. Doesn't matter which workgroup.

    Reboot.

Do the above again but move it from the workgroup to the domain. This will establish a completely new SID (security ID) with the domain controller and even though the computer name will look the same to you, to the domain controller it is a completely new machine.

    That should fix things up.

I don't know if this will help or not, but i had the exact same problem you are having. Like you i tried all of the aforementioned steps and several others along the way. Today I was able to add my misbehavin laptop to the company domain. It turned out that I had Norton personel firewall enabled. Once I configured the appropiate trusted zones, I was able to add it to the domain.
