On the bottom of the screen next to the "START" bottom you will find "Short Cuts" or "Fast Start" icons. If you put your mouse by the item you will find a description of what the items is. Can someone please tell me how one turns the description "off ". I would like to just have the icon there and not have to see the description.

    Hi DrBarron
Welcome to the boards. The area you are referring to, is called the Quick Launch. The descriptors are called Tool Tips. You can disable them this way .

    Shortcuts and tool tips...

There is another way if you don't want to go into the registry... right click on the shortcut icon in question, select properties, then whatever text is listed in the 'comment field' is shown as the tool tip. You can either edit this text or delete it all together. HTH
