Every time we start XP Home and open some programs, Runas windows popup. Is there a global way to undo this?

AFAIK it should not be happening unless you have permissions problems. Runas simply offers you the option of running a program as a user other than the one who is logged on.

Can you provide a little more detail? What programs, is the logged on user a member of a group with adequate rights to the application and it's folder?

    Newt,
It's a stand alone Dell with XP Home. The single user has, of course, administrative rights. It pops for most programs including MS Word, Norton Antivirus, the Users control panel and at least three startup programs. I know how to turn it on and off for one program, but sinse it seems to be turned on globally, so I was hoping for a global fix. Supposedly, it started after doing a virus scan...I wasn't there.

Very possible that a virus was trying to setup a "Runas" to do its nasties. So you killed the Viri but some of its work is still there.

Try this, in Administrative tools find and run "Services" look down the list for RUNAS then stop the service and disable it.

    Report results.

There was no Runas service running.
We're looking at a clean re-install. We'll make sure that our backup docs are virus free and bite the bullet.
It's an interesting puzzle that I'd like to solve, but...
    Thanks for the input.
