    PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

Turns out the incorrect date was the problem all along. I just ran scandskw.exe and it found no errors at all.

Thanks to all for the various suggestions. I still have no clue why my pc won't boot into safe mode, but at this point I don't care so much.

Scandisk reported to you that the only problem with these files was an invalid date.

Had to told us that, then this would have ended days ago.

We could have told you then that this was not the same as a damaged file, was harmless and would have realized the time on the computer could be incorrect and told you how to unchek it to stop it from even checking this.

But glad to hear it is over with!

The thing is, scandisk never told me the problems were invalid dates. As I posted way early in this thread, the messages were all the same (here's an example):

    "The 'C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\BKUPDLLS' folder is damaged.
The entries that identify this folder and the folder it is in are missing or damaged. This may prevent you from using the folder or its contents. ScanDisk repairs the error by correcting these entries. "

No way I could tell from this that an incorrectly set date was the real culprit.

    Thanks again for the help.

BTW, nice looking daughter. I have a Jennifer too. She's in graduate school (for environmental policy, whatever that is).

    Why, thanks MD

Mine is a Specialist in the Army National Guard soon to be a Seargent. She joined while still in high school 3 yrs now.

Goes to community college 14 hr per week studying Art(considered full time by Fed and state). Preping for Wake Forrest at Winston Salem 18 miles from here.

She is a fulltime grahpic artist (her employer allows her very flexable hrs.) Designs graphics mostly for Bush and Nascar, race cars and haulers. She is a busy girl. She still lives at home with me. Just the 2 of us and I love it.

You had to get me started didn't you! Smile.

    Mike

Oh yes! Just today she was notified she has been selected as Soldier of the year in her company.

    And in her spare time???

Seriously, it sounds like she's someone you can be very proud of. We managed to raise 5 kids without TOO much trouble (at least no serious injuries or jail time). Besides Jen, we also have a molecular biologist, a full-time Mary Kay lady, a restaurant manager, and a licensed river guide.

Hope your daughter sticks with the National Guard (if she likes it, anyway). Too few kids these days are interested. I'm in the MD Air National Guard myself, and did 3 years in the Army Guard after active duty before that. Could retire right now, but I enjoy it too much. Not a plug or anything, but the Air Guard is a LOT better.

Take care, and thanks again for all your help.

    Glenn
