    Hi all ,

I have only just recently cleaned up my C:Drive by deleting some stuff and i have just noticed that all my Jpeg files have changed to just plain files and i can not view them .. I have tried the Open with drop down menu but it seems that i can only open them with the iexplore program..

I would love to know how i can get back to Jpeg files opening at the click of my mouse..

I have searched all the win98 Faq's but am unable to find an Answer..

If you can help me out here it would be mega Appreciated..

    Thanks Heaps
    Mick..

While holding down the shift key, RIGHT click on any jpg file and then choose "Open With.." Scroll down the list of programs until you find the one you want all jpgs to open with, click on it, then click on the box that says "Always open...etc." below that list, click OK and you should be good to go.

    Thanks for the reply.

I found this info in the FAQ as well but , when i get the list of programs up the iexplore is the only one which will open the pictures..

Where all my jpegs used to have a yellow/ orange frame logo on them now they all have a Monitor screen logo on them..

any idea how i can get the jpegs back to the old format..

    Thanks Again

Michaelt78--Miz has given you the usual and correct instructions for reassociating a file type with a program.
Of course, for this to work, you have to associate the file type with a program that can do the job. Internet Explorer is one. Graphics editors like MS Paint or Irfanview--iview32 (www.irfanview.com) are others. But as Miz has said you have to pick one. And check the "Always use this program..." at the bottom of the "Open With..." window.
P.S. Since your .jpg files now have the monitor icon, it sounds as if they have been associated with "Application ", which cannot open them. The reassociation procedure is accomplished as Miz suggested.

A method to allow multiple programs to open?

Some time ago I saved the following information from, I THINK, a PCMag article online regarding multiple options for 'file open with'. I've never tried it, but perhaps the instructions would allow for this?
I apologize, I didn't save the source URL along w/the instructions which I saved off in a text file.

Being overjoyed at finding the answer to my windowsupdate problem here on this forum, I thought I'd take a chance and offer the above - but I'm far from any kind of expert :) since it seemed to offer an option regarding the topic being discussed.

I do believe I struck gold when I found this site today!

Michaelt78 --Thanks for posting back. Always good to learn that a suggestion helped.

VeryTired --Interesting article. I suspect that Michaelt78's problem was that he had associated .jpg files with a program that could not open them.
