I'm trying to set up my PC to receive faxes. I've got a USR PCI card modem hooked up to the phone socket and, I think, everything set up OK. The service seemed to be working fine (and it received a fax automatically this afternoon) but I rebooted and now it just won't respond to an incoming call. There's no fax icon now in the System Tray.

Fax Service Management has it set to receive OK but no icon and no answering. The fax service is started under services (and I've tried forcing a restart) - nothing seems able to fire it up.

Anyone know what is going on - and has the fix?

    Thanks.

Steve - the service is probably trying to run under the SYSTEM account and some apps don't do well that way.

Try creating a new local account - call it FaxService or something - and put it in the administrator group. Then modify the service to run using that account rather than the default.

Would you believe it - another reboot and it's started up OK. Not sure what's happening here.

If it hangs again, I'll try your suggestion. Thanks,
    Steve
